GLOBAL PROGRAMS |
Dewidiari and Wayan Rachman run a series of weekly programs in their village, Banjar Bunutan, for children, teenagers and adults. The classes are held at the community center of the village, Bale Banjar, at their own studio and at other rehearsing spaces provided by other members of the community.
These programs are delivered ad honorem, to fulfill Bali Jaladara’s missions to inspire and develop creativity through training, using the performing arts as a media; to protect, conserve, develop and explore the traditional Balinese arts and culture and to keep them alive and evolving, while educating and inspiring the future generations of Balinese artists. |
Rooted in Tri Hita Karana philosophy, the Balinese way of life is a complex, multi-layered, holistic reality. A combination of tradition, religion, spiritual practise and cultural heritage shape the character of the community in an infinite, forever interconnected dance in which every single element is crucial and revered.
There are many doorways into this fantastic matrix. However, it is in the arts where all the layers flow into, converge and reveal to us in an enchanting fashion. Bali Jaladara’s global programs are interdisciplinary, engaged learning experiences created to help students understand those underlying values and practices of Balinese society. These programs are a combination of lectures, class work, studio sessions and field trips. Through presentations, readings, discussions and workshops, the students learn basic terms, concepts and techniques that enable them to become a connoisseur of and participant in traditional Balinese life. They gain an understanding of the basic construction of multiple art expressions and applications through the interdisciplinary exploration of Bali’s cultural history. |
